While in Omaha, he gave his time and support to the local Children's Hospital. The hospital provides primary, specialty, urgent, and virtual care from several locations in Greater Omaha. Buchanan also supported the local Omaha branch of the Nebraska Humane Society, which protects animals by providing education and sanctuary.

In Florida, he supports the Rochester, Minnesota-based Mayo Clinic, which has been providing care to patients from around the world for more than 100 years. The not-for-profit health system has several campuses, including a medical college, clinics, and a hospital. One of its campuses is in Jacksonville, Fl.
